Your alarm says something's wrong. This says what, and says it sooner.
Septic Brain watches your pump and aerator over Wi-Fi, learns what normal looks like, and tells you when something is drifting. On your phone, not a buzzer in the yard.

The alarm is the last thing to know
Most septic panels only have a float switch and a buzzer. By the time it sounds, the tank is already high and you're calling for emergency service.
Pumps rarely die all at once. They cycle more often, run longer, or run dry for weeks first. Nobody sees it because nobody is watching.
Aerators lose pressure slowly. The system keeps 'working' while treatment quietly gets worse. Often the first sign is an odor, and partly treated effluent reaches your yard or the creek before an inspection catches it.
If you're away, or the panel is behind the shed, an audible alarm may as well not exist.
How it works
Septic Brain is a small Wi-Fi monitor for septic systems with a pump or aerator. It watches how the pump and aerator actually behave, spots problems as they develop, and sends you a notification instead of leaving it to a panel buzzer in the yard.
- 1
Connects at the control panel
The monitor wires in at your existing septic control panel and joins your Wi-Fi. No changes to the tank, the pump, or the way your system operates.
- 2
Watches the pump and aerator
It records every pump cycle, the pump's real power and power factor, and the aerator's pressure. Over weeks, that becomes a clear picture of the system's health.
- 3
Flags problems early
A pump whose real power or power factor has shifted, or that cycles too often. An aerator whose pressure has drifted up or down, which can lead to an odor. These trends show up well before the alarm trips, so you can act on your schedule.
- 4
Notifies you, your way
When your panel alarm trips, you hear about it even if you can't hear the buzzer. Alarms and early warnings arrive as app notifications, texts, or email. Or just open the app and look.
What you'll see in the app
Instead of a single red light, you get the actual behavior of your system over time. Here's the kind of view Septic Brain is designed to give you.

Illustrative screens. The trial app is under development and views will change.
- Pump run history
- When the pump ran, for how long, and how often. Unusual patterns stand out.
- Pump power and power factor
- Real power and power factor per cycle over time. Together they track the motor's health, so a change from normal stands out.
- Dry-run detection
- A pump running without moving water is a pump about to fail. Septic Brain notices.
- Aerator pressure
- Pressure over time. Falling pressure points to a failing diaphragm or a leak and is a common cause of odor. Rising pressure points to a clogged diffuser.
- Daily dosing
- Doses per day, run time per dose, and how both shift after you adjust the timer or the return valve that sends some pump flow back to the tank. Tune a drip or mound field with numbers instead of waiting a week to see if it's still wet.
Why homeowners want this
Warning, not just alarm
A pump cycling more often or an aerator losing pressure shows up days or weeks before a failure. Schedule a service call instead of an emergency.
Peace of mind when you're away
Vacation, second home, or just a long day. If something is wrong, your phone tells you.
Share it with your septic pro
Invite your service company to see your system in the app. They can diagnose from the run history and pressure trend before they roll a truck.
No tank work
Installs at the control panel. Nothing goes in the tank.
Notifications only if you want them
App, text, or email. Or just open the app when you're curious.
Know every run, and tune your timer with data
See every cycle: when the pump ran and for how long. On a timed-dose system, see what changed after you touched the timer or return valve instead of guessing.
Questions
Does it work with my system?
Septic Brain is designed for systems with an electric effluent pump, an aerator, or both. That covers most pumped conventional systems and aerobic treatment units (ATUs). If you're not sure what you have, tell us in the survey and we'll help figure it out.
What does the monitor actually measure?
Real power and power factor of each pump or aerator, aerator air pressure, and the panel's alarm output. That is enough to see run history, dry running, and falling aerator pressure. A water-level sensor and a flow sensor are planned as optional add-ons for people who want to see tank inflow directly, for example to tell rain or sprinklers apart from household water.
Does it replace my alarm?
No. Your existing panel alarm keeps working exactly as it does now. Septic Brain wires to the panel's alarm output and notifies you when it trips, and adds the early warnings your panel can't give.
Do I need Wi-Fi at the control panel?
Yes. A quick check: stand at the septic panel with your phone and see if it still has usable Wi-Fi. If it does, you are set. If not, we are also developing range-extending options, so ask us about them in the survey.
I have a drip field with a timer. Does this help?
Yes. The monitor records every dose, so you can see doses per day, run time per dose, and per-dose power, and compare before and after a timer or return-valve change instead of guessing. Telling rain or sprinklers apart from household water takes the optional level and flow sensors, which are planned as add-ons.
Who installs it?
For the trial we'll work with you directly, and where possible with a local septic professional. The monitor wires into the control panel; it's a similar job to adding an outlet.
What does the trial involve?
Trial participants get a monitor, help with installation, and direct access to the team. In return we ask for feedback and permission to learn from your system's data. We'll share the details with everyone who signs up.
